Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly

(Economic and Financial Committee)

The General Assembly Second Committee deals with global economic and  financial issues, with a strong focus on sustainable development and reducing  global inequalities. Established in the early days of the UN, it’s responsibilities  include addressing poverty, economic disparities, and the impacts of  globalization. It works to ensure that the benefits of economic progress are  shared equitably among all nations.

Key areas of the committee’s work include promoting international trade,  advocating for sustainable energy policies, and addressing the challenges of  climate change. It also discusses financial systems, debt management, and the  financing of development projects. By fostering dialogue between developed  and developing countries, the GA 2nd facilitates the creation of fair economic  policies that prioritize long-term sustainability over short-term gains.

This year the GA 1st will be addressing economic dependencies caused by  developing projects carried out by global powers. This topic will allow delegates to  learn more and discuss how much influence Global powers actually have and more  about the role they play in today’s economy.
