MUN-Director / Foreign Student
I am a MUN-Director or foreign student and wish to learn more about the Housing Programme.
FAQ for MUN-Directors
What is the OLMUN Housing Programme?
The Housing Programme was created in order to facilitate the accommodation of foreign delegations during the OLMUN week: Each year, host families in Oldenburg and its surroundings offer a bed, a breakfast and a dinner for free to the enrolled students.
Of course, the advantages of participating in the Housing Programme are far from being limited to the material aspects only, though: For hosts and guests alike, it also offers a platform for intercultural exchange that has often laid the foundations of long-lasting friendships.
Who is applicable for the programme?
Generally, the Housing Programme is open to foreign delegations only for two reasons: On the one hand, these delegations are usually facing higher travel costs already and can simply not afford accommodation e. g. in a hotel, while, on the other hand, we try to facilitate intercultural exchange between hosts and guests that is, obviously, not possible with a German delegation.
Yet, there’s a “however” to this rule: Our principal aim is to make OLMUN as accessible as possible and we’re very happy to assess each situation individually and make concessions wherever we can! If you’re a German MUN-director and wish to discuss your delegation’s possible enrolment in the Housing Programme, please do email us at housing@olmun.org and we’ll try to figure out a solution alongside you!
How can my delegation get enrolled?
It takes only one click to apply for the Housing Programme — yet, each member of the delegation needing accommodation in a host family has to click individually: The OLMUN application forms (both the one for delegates and the one for MUN-directors) feature a checkbox which is labelled “Housing needed” that has to be checked by every delegate and MUN-director during their respective application process.
I’m not sure if my students have all selected “housing needed” in the application form — how can I check
that?
No worries — just drop us a line at housing@olmun.org where you let us know the number of students that should be enrolled, and we’ll double-check this number with your delegation’s entry in our database.
Can I get any information concerning my delegation’s accommodation before the conference?
Yes. Once the application is closed, we’ll get in touch with you to confirm the details of your application and provide all information you might need (within the boundaries of our privacy policies, of course).
Until then, please do not hesitate to message us at housing@olmun.org in case of any questions or concerns!
What other housing opportunities are there in Oldenburg?
Apart from various hotels, Oldenburg has a modern and comfortable youth hostel which offers cheap accommodation within walking distance from the Weser-Ems-Halle and Oldenburg’s central bus station, offering connections to all other venues. You can check out their availabilities here.
Kindly note that any accommodation outside the Housing Programme must be arranged by the delegations and that we cannot accept responsibility for any of those arrangements at any time before, during or after the conference! However, we’ll be happy to assist you to the best of our abilities in case of any problems arising during a booking process that are, for instance, due to the language barrier. For such enquiries, please email us at housing@olmun.org.
