Committee on the Rights of the Child

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child was established in 1991 to monitor the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which seeks to protect the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of children worldwide. The CRC reviews reports submitted by states on their progress in ensuring these rights and provides recommendations to help improve the welfare and protection of children. By addressing issues such as child labor, education, health, and protection from violence and exploitation, the committee plays a vital role in advocating for the rights and well-being of the world’s youngest and most vulnerable populations.

This year´s topic touches on safeguarding minors online. It addresses issues such as cyberbullying, sexual exploitation, exposure to harmful content, and the collection of personal data from minors. The topic also examines the responsibilities of social media companies and the effectiveness of existing laws.
