Dear delegates and MUN-Directors,
we have set mid-March as a deadline to announce our plans for the Oldenburg Model United Nations Conference 2021. In these times of uncertainty, it is important for everyone to be able to plan ahead - which is why we have decided upon the general outline for the conference now. We have taken your preferences into account, but also considered the ongoing influences of the COVID-19-pandemic as well as school and state regulations.
Sadly, we will not be able to welcome any participants from outside of the region of Oldenburg to an in-person event. We offer online committees instead, the delegates are able to participate in an online OLMUN Week. We do not think that school excursions will be possible on a grander scale by then, especially considering the booking appropriate accommodation. Travelling beyond the state or country borders is unlikely in light of currently rising numbers.
However, delegates and staff from the region of Oldenburg are able to participate in-person in case the situation has improved by May. Then, we will confer with the city of Oldenburg and the school which would host a committee and decide whether in-person debates will be possible. There will be two committees for those participants: the ASEAN and the UNEP. The other committees will be congregating online.
The schedule for OLMUN Week will remain the same: the opening and closing ceremony will be live-streamed, the committee sessions are set for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning. There will also be engaging socialising activities online. All delegates will also receive a Survival Pack.
Making these decisions now also gave us the opportunity to re-calculate the costs of the conference. Taking into account that we will not have to rent as many venues and that we do have generous supporters this year, we are able to lower the delegation fee to 25€ per delegate.
We do hope that your groups will still apply or confirm your application until April 5th, 2021. We are looking forward to seeing you in June!
Kind regards,
The OLMUN Secretariat
Dear MUN-Director,
The Application for OLMUN 2021 opened on 11th of January 2021. From now on you can apply at www.olmun.org > Application. Please fill out the general form for the MUN-Director and let each one of your students fill out the form for the Delegates. Please make sure that all information is entered correctly as we cannot not filter spelling mistakes for all participants of OLMUN 2021.
For this year’s conference, we are planning with
different scenarios depending on the severity of the COVID-19-pandemic. That is
why OLMUN 2021 will be a hybrid conference with committees congregating online
as well as in-person. In the following weeks, we will evaluate how many
committees will debate online and in Oldenburg respectively. It is most likely
that we will be able to welcome schools from the region of Oldenburg in-person,
whereas other (international) schools have the opportunity to participate
online.
Eight committees will be simulated at OLMUN 2021, their sizes are ranging from 12 delegates to around 80 delegates. We are thus enabling the delegates to work more closely and effectively online as well as minimizing the risk for those delegates who are meeting in Oldenburg.
We have adapted
the application form so that you can already name your preference whether your
school would like to participate in-person if possible or online regardless of future
developments. To plan as efficiently as possible and to create a conference
that suits everyone’s situation, we recommend to apply at the earliest
opportunity and to state your preference. By mid-March, we will assess your
choices and announce how many committees will debate online.
The
Participation fee is 35€ per student including all materials for the Conference
and lunch at the first and last day of OLMUN as well as the infrastructure we
have to set up to enable online debates.
Sadly, we are
not able to offer our Housing Programme this year. If you want to stay in a
hotel, please feel free to contact us, we would be happy to help you and let
you know about the best prices in Oldenburg. Please note that the “Deutsche
Jugendherberge Oldenburg” has reopened and is now located at “Straßburger Str.
6 – 26123 Oldenburg”. Also, there is the opportunity to purchase bus tickets
for the city busses. Bus tickets will be available to choose from the beginning
of March in the shop section. Please notice that Bus tickets are not included
in the conference fee.
The deadlines
for the Application and the Final Information (i.e. your delegation wishes) is the 04th
of April 2021 11:59pm. Please transfer the Fees till the 16th of May 2021 11:59pm.
As you may know, the COVID-19-pandemic is still threatening our lives. Events and conferences like Model UN do not take place in order to curb the spread of the virus. Therefore, many organizations and associations are re-thinking their concepts for conferences.
We are currently at the very beginning of organising OLMUN 2021. The progression of the pandemic is hardly predictable, which is why we are planning with two different scenarios:
As our conference is known for its special atmosphere, an in-person conference is targeted. Should it be foreseeable that such a conference is out of reach, we will re-evaluate our concepts in January.
Our minimum solution would be a rather regional conference. Then, only schools in the region of Oldenburg will be able to participate, with exception of international partner schools.
However, we are hoping for a national or international conference. With a maximum of 400 participants, we would be conducting an event in accordance with the rules set by the State of Lower Saxony and Germany. As to prevent a possible outbreak during our conference, we will change certain aspects of the committee sessions. For instance, there will be no GA committees, but rather smaller committees.
We are sincerely hoping that we will be able to welcome you in Oldenburg in June and encourage you to apply (application opens in January) despite such unsteady times. A final decision about the way of conduction can only be made on short notice (May 2021), as we are bound by responsibility and our State’s rules.
We will keep you updated should there be any relevant changes to our plans! Feel free to contact us should any questions occur.
Sincerely,
The OLMUN Secretariat of 2021
Dear MUN-Directors and future guests,
Distinguished delegates,
A lot of events are being cancelled due to the alarming developments of the coronavirus pandemic. The state government of Lower Saxony prohibited all public events until at least April 19. As of now, we are still planning and organizing our conference that is set to take place from June 23 to June 26, 2020. However, we keep close attention to the current developments and take them very seriously. Our application deadline is prolonged until May 3. We would then hurry to allocate the delegations so that your preparation time will not be cut too short.
In the face of such uncertainty we believe that it is imperative to make a clear decision by gathering and considering many different kinds of information. In order to decide what’s best for each of you and for OLMUN alike, we will postpone a possible cancellation until then.
We are aware that we have the responsibility to evaluate this situation on a continuous basis and will therefore keep you informed about any decision regarding our conference.
We hope you understand that the health and safety of our delegates and wider community will always remain our number one priority.
Regardless of any further decision, OLMUN still wants to offer students the opportunity to discuss international problems by giving them the chance to resolve these concerned issues with their own resolutions.
Therefore, we hereby announce our first digital OLMUN Poster Challenge:
Get together online in small groups (max. 6 people). Our Dep. President (deppresident@olmun.org) will gladly assist you when it comes to bringing interested students together. Just send an email until March 31 and we will find you students from different corners of the world to work with.
Choose one of the topics of our 2020 Agenda (https://www.olmun.org/
Do some research about the topic/problem and present it adequately.
Consider two or three different points of view on the topic and work together to create two or three resolutions. Also consider who would support such a resolution.
Present your solutions on the poster in a second step.
Hand in your work (Deadline: May 31, DIN A2 size, Portrait Position).
All posters will be printed out for the conference. The Chairs and Presidents will then decide on the best piece and award it with some awesome OLMUN merch.
We hope to see as many great posters as possible.
Until then, please stay healthy!
Sincerely,
The OLMUN Secretariat
