Commission on the Status of Women
The Commission on the Status of Women is the main intergovernmental body dedicated to empowering women and promoting gender equality. It was established by the ECOSOC in 1946 and monitors and reviews progress in regards to gender equality. Member states discuss ideas for the promotion of women’s rights and achieving gender equality and evaluate the progress of their previously implemented conclusions from past sessions. The CSW has been one of the leading forces for improving the lives of women, publicly and privately. The focus of the CSW is to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.
